Abstract
A generalized Gaussian autoregressive (GGAr) model is proposed, and its properties and limitations are discussed. Some mathematical difficulties were encountered with the model, caused by the fact that the probability density distribution of the prediction error can not be expressed in closed form. Nevertheless, the GGAr model better describes the stochastic characteristics of medical X-ray images and is expected to be useful in image data compression and other applications
