Abstract :
A new actuator that relies on induced eddy currents to produce the actuating thrust is described. The absence of springs makes the actuator a robust one which requires little maintenance. This feature makes it suitable for use in many hostile environments. By using a DSP to control the power supply, the actuator can be made to exhibit a variety of force/displacement characteristics
