Abstract :
It is investigated in more details, in this paper, about the characteristics of the Magneto-Rheological Damper (MRD) for its effective and efficient application for seismic reduction of buildings. The Bouc-Wen model is employed, in this study, for the further exploration of the characteristics of MRD; and a novel fuzzy sliding mode control strategy is proposed for the special structure of the control system. Numerical simulation studies were made on computer with MatLab to verify the effectiveness of the proposed control method to reduce the seismic response of a 4-storey building equipped with MRD under the recorded El Centro earthquake wave.
