  • Abstract
    Summary form only given. Charge-transfer collisions can play an important role in air plasmas because they transform long-lived atomic ions into short-lived molecular ions. A number of criteria have be applied in predicting the efficiency of charge-transfer collisions when measurements are not available. Energy resonance, Franck-Condon and Langevin criteria are discussed for low-energy singly-charged ion-neutral charge-transfer collisions. The suitability of these criteria are debated using various charge-transfer systems relevant to air plasmas as examples.
