Abstract :
Two methods of measuring the burst frequency noise and phase noise of crystals are described and their relative advantages compared. Observations of the frequency changes and phase noise of crystals and crystal oscillators are reported, including comparison of burst frequency noise at the fundamental and overtones simultaneously. Efforts to find correlations between burst frequency noise and other crystal parameters are reported. The previously reported relationship between the spectral density of frequency fluctuations at 1 Hz offset and 1/Q4 is examined in light of the observed burst frequency noise
