  • Abstract
Rising costs and restrictive legislation have emphasized the need for minimization of waste sludge produced. As one of the most competitive technologies of sludge reduction, sludge ozonation process was modified by introducing appropriate hydrogen peroxide. The effects of hydrogen peroxide/ozone treatment on sludge were investigated. A substantial reduction of sludge volume and water content were observed. The settleability of sludge improved obviously and the ST decreased from 39 to 14. However, according to the CST value, the filterability of sludge become some deteriorative which increased from 17.2s to 120.4s. Comparing with PCOD and TOC, the former could reflect the disintegration of sludge better than the latter. In addition, according to the analyses of the composition of supernatant, the reactive phosphorus was account for more than 50% of the total phosphorus which would be better for the recovery of phosphorus from sludge.
