Abstract
The applicability of GSM/DCS technology to the wireless local loop (WLL) is considered by link level simulations using channel models, which are based on new radio channel measurements in urban and suburban type environments. For comparison purposes, some simulations are also performed using a `hilly terrain WLL channel´ based on GSM HTX model. Antenna diversity in the WLL terminal and slow frequency hopping are studied as performance enhancement techniques. Furthermore, the effect of interleaving depth reduction used to achieve a smaller overall transmission delay is considered. According to the results, standard CSM/DCS system with antenna diversity in the WLL terminal is a feasible technology for the wireless local loop. Slow frequency hopping also seems to offer quite good performance gain. In addition, the reduction of interleaving depth with negligible performance loss is possible
