Abstract :
A traffic estimation technique that is conceived for application to distributed queue dual bus (DQDB) metropolitan area networks (MANs) is proposed. It allows the closed user group (CUG) traffic generated by connectionless and connection-oriented data services to be monitored. The solution proposed is compatible with the current draft standard IEEE 802.6. A selective traffic control scheme is introduced to enforce the global capacity allocated to the CUG users with in the bounds contractually agreed upon. Simulation results are provided to illustrate the performance and the fairness features of the method
