Abstract :
An optimization of a biomedical actuator for implantable continuous glucose concentration monitoring is presented. The actuator has a stator with a 3-phase winding and a cylindrical permanent magnet as the rotor, which is plunged in the fluid in which the glucose concentration is to be measured. The fluid viscosity, and therefore the resistive torque on the rotor, is proportional to the glucose concentration. This torque is computed by measuring the back EMF induced in the open stator phases during the deceleration of the rotor. The optimization is based on the actuator analytical model, combined with an advanced SQP algorithm.
