Abstract
For any network connection, the data throughput of the end device is related to its TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) buffer size, network latency and network bandwidth. In regions where open market devices are popular like European and Asian markets, the devices come with a static value of buffer sizes that are independent of operator´s network conditions consequently resulting in either low throughput or wastage of kernel memory in case of low bandwidth networks. To solve this problem, we propose the concept of configuring the TCP buffer sizes dynamically based on the values obtained from the operator´s server. The optimal buffer sizes would remain same for an operator network in a region under specific network conditions and can be calculated on the basis of the bandwidth and round trip time. Experimental results presented later demonstrate the significance of setting the buffer sizes concordant with the operator´s configuration.
