Abstract :
The authors present the results of studies of electron/ion emission from poled and nonpoled ferroelectric samples. The results indicate that the source of the charged particles is the plasma which is formed on the front electrode of the ferroelectric due to noncomplete surface discharge. Parameters of the plasma and the neutral flow versus the polarity and the amplitude of the driving pulses are presented. They studied the operation of electron diodes with the ferroelectric cathodes under the application of a high voltage pulse of /spl les/45 kV with a repetition rate of /spl les/5 Hz and a pulse of /spl les/250 kV in a single mode. Electron beams with a current density of several hundreds A/cm/sup 2/ and a duration of several hundreds of nanoseconds were generated.
