Abstract :
A modern digital transmission network carrying voice, data and video communication signals requires a centralized system to initially verify performance and to continuously monitor the quality of its transmission links and alert maintenance personnel to any service degradation so that remedial action can be taken before the service is affected. The digital performance monitoring system (DPMS), which is based on the OSI model, of the telecommunication management network, is discussed. This system has a flexible architecture that allows various functional units or departments to manage those portions of the network under their responsibilities. The heart of the system and its data communication network are maintained by a centralized group of personnel
