Abstract :
This paper evaluates the performance of a reservation protocol for a mobile data system with multiclass users of different priorities. Three classes of service priorities are considered which arbitrarily contend for any available slots in a TDMA frame. A channel structure similar to variable rate reservation access (VRRA) is used which provides the contending terminal with a time to access even at high load conditions. The access delay is controlled using a prioritized contention and channel allocation. For the total transmission delay, a proposed multislot reservation and allocation algorithm is used. The performance is characterized based on the mean access delay and cumulative transmission delay.
