Abstract :
In this paper, after a short introduction on mobile satellite systems, the CIR (carrier-to-interference ratio) is introduced as a measure of quality of a mobile-to-satellite link (and vice versa), The difference between CIRup and CIRdown is illustrated and the quasi-independence of these measures is highlighted. Three CIR based dynamic channel allocation (DCA) strategies for mobile satellite systems suitable for both, FDMA/TDMA and CDMA, are presented and discussed. Based on realistic mobility and traffic models, the performance of the proposed DCA schemes is evaluated by simulation. Finally, simulation results are presented and discussed.
