Abstract :
As computational capacities have become more powerful, smaller and cheaper the use of direct sequence modulation in combination with a RAKE receiver on the HF-channel, has become both feasible and affordable. The authors look at the benefits one can get from using direct sequence as a modulation technique on the HF-channel. Next, some arguments for using CDMA as a multiple access technique on the HF-channel are given. Finally, the possibilities of testing spread spectrum modems for the HF-channel in order to validate the supposed characteristics and benefits, are discussed
