Abstract :
An active node locating strategy to be utilized when constructing fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) networks that provide narrowband and video distribution services is proposed. Three typical configurations are considered as alternatives for system sharing. Required land space and service provisioning effort, facility cost, and maintenance effort are calculated. From these factors the total network cost is calculated, and an overall evaluation is made. An active node-location strategy based on evaluations from three typical service areas in Japan is derived, for both present and future cost-related environments. This strategy is very universal and can be applied independently of the adopted system-sharing configuration
