Abstract :
The simplest, yet the most rational approach to composing a very-large-scale asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) switching network is to compose it only from buffered unit switches. An effective configuration for such a switching network is studied, and a generalized parallel delta network is proposed. This network can be composed from only one kind of n×n unit switch in a modular manner. The number of stages can be determined freely regardless of the scale of the entire switching network. It is nonblocking at call level, and a good cell-level traffic handling performance can be expected. The network is also very fault tolerant
