Abstract :
Over the past decade, three emerging wireless standards in UWB, WiMax, and 60GHz dominated the wireless research activities. However, it remains unclear if any of them will become commercial successes. The reasons for these remain varied - from too early in the market to technical viability vs. commercial success etc. The premise of this panel session is to look at the wireless communications field from two ends of the frequency spectrum viz. the ultra-low power technologies and high speed, high through-put RF systems. The panel also challenges to look at the "glue" that holds these together from a personal communication device perspective, namely the cell-phone.
