Abstract :
Material master data is much more complex than other master data. Especially in industry, the lack of a common taxonomy leads to two major problems: heterogeneous classification structures on the one hand, and various data content defects on the other. None of the existing standards fits all individual needs which occur in different areas of application. To improve data quality in material master data, correcting data content defects is not enough. This paper introduces a method which allows developing an individual meta data structure based on legacy data. It serves to set up an individual taxonomy and correcting data content defects simultaneously. The method described has been developed and successfully proved in several consulting projects in industry.
