Abstract
Today´s wireless communication systems demand very high computational performance and large energy efficiency in a cost sensitive market segment. At the same time there is a great demand for flexibility due to varying QoS requirements and multi-standard support. These requirements impose big challenges on the efficient implementation of wireless baseband processing. In this talk we will give an overview on these challenges. Heterogeneous multi-core architectures are the most promising approach to fulfill all these requirements. Application specific instruction set processors are key cores in such MPSoC´s. We will present a family of dynamically reconfigurable application-specific instruction-set processors for the outer modem in a software defined radio environment.
