Abstract :
Asynchronous (ATM) traffic measurement mechanisms in the VISTAnet gigabit testbed are described. The focus is on the measurement aspects of the control and measurement subsystem (CMS). The CMS traffic measurement environment consists of two custom measurement boards, the measurement channel and the measurement interface, and the VxWorks real-time operating system running on a dedicated single-board computer. The measurement channel acts like a logic analyzer of ATM cell traffic information. It acts on received or transmitted data in one of three modes: the match count mode, the match bit mode, and the traffic capture mode. The three modes offer varying degrees of detail and different lengths of monitoring time
