Abstract
In order to cut the channel-capacity-terminal chain in current synchronous transfer mode (STM) subscriber loops and to reduce initial costs for broadband services distributed over a wide area, it is necessary to construct an asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) platform based on passive double star (PDS) architecture. An evolution scenario towards ATM-PDS services integrated subscriber loops during the transition from POTS (plain old telephone service) or N-ISDN to B-ISDN is presented
