Abstract :
The Talexus System is the latest generation of support equipment for Key meters as made by both Schlumberger and Siemens. The Key system is the most widely used system for prepayment metering in the UK, and to date there are 1.2 million meters in use at six electricity companies. The Key system is the major two way prepayment technology that has underwritten the substantial increase in prepayment meter usage in the last few years, and continues to evolve in the search for lower operating costs. In this paper the author examines the history of the system, including why and how it was developed, and then look at the way that the system is continuing to evolve to satisfy the needs of a rapidly changing industry
