Abstract :
This paper investigates through computer simulations the characteristics of various surface shapes of planar emitter in field emission display (FED). An over-gate triode structure is selected to investigate emission characteristics because this structure can shield and pass effectively the anode field down to the emitters. The emission properties for two driving modes of gate extraction and anode extraction is investigated, depending on the emitter material. The density distributions of emission current, trajectories of emission electrons and profiles of emitted beam on anode plate for each driving mode are compared.
