  • Abstract
    This paper presents a novel character segmentation method of license plate based on quick region marking method and the large-interval-based character locating algorithm. This will enhance the accuracy of the recognition system that aims to read automatically the Chinese license plate. In the proposed methodology, the character region in license plate image is enhanced and binarized in the preprocessing stage, and the whole image is performed by the quick region marking method and the candidate regions of characters are located in the following. Then the final character regions are determined based on the large-interval-based character locating algorithm. Finally, the characters are segmented from original license plate. The proposed method in character segmentation is fast and accurate, and is tolerant to license plate with deformations, rotations, plate frame, rivet, the space mark, and so on. And promising results have been obtained in experiments on Chinese license plates.
