Abstract
A standardized exchange of ECG data by using current information technology was made possible thanks to the European projects OEDIPE (Open European Data Interchange and Processing for Electrocardiography) and SCP-ECG (Standard Communications Protocol for Computerized Electrocardiography). With SCP implemented in electrocardiographs and in software products, open networks can be built up through normal telephone lines, cellular telephones (GSM), or even satellite telephones. Various systems based upon the SCP technology have already been installed in different areas of health care
