Abstract :
The feasibility of using digital carrier systems to upgrade the rural telephone service to the level of the urban service is investigated. Two types of systems are considered: point-to-point and one-point-to-many-point systems. It is shown that upgrading by plowing in new cable is more economical than either of these approaches
