Abstract :
An M/G/1/N queuing system with vacations under dynamic time-limited service policy is analyzed. This methodology is used to develop a procedure for performance analysis of a fiber distributed data interface (FDDI) network serving buffer-limited stations under asynchronous service. An efficient iteration procedure is employed to evaluate the limiting state distribution of the embedded Markov chain representing the system state process. The queue size distribution at an arbitrary instant of time, the blocking probability and the mean packet delay are derived using supplementary variables and sample biasing techniques. Performance curves obtained under the approximations in deriving the time-domain packet delay distribution are illustrated. An iteration procedure for the analysis of a multistation FDDI network is presented. The analytical techniques presented yield results close to those obtained by simulations
