Abstract :
An automatic counting algorithm for chromosomes was presented. At the beginning, the histogram equalization, threshold segment and erode operation were used to handle the input image. Then, the label algorithm was used to sign an exclusive label to every object in the image. Based on the given qualification, the labeled noise objects were deleted. Then, the number of chromosomes contained in the objects with overlapped chromosomes was computed. The value of the label was adjusted according to the computing results. The adjusted result was just the number of the chromosomes in the image. The experiment proves that this algorithm can count the number of the chromosomes in one image automatically.
