Abstract
We study, by computer simulation, the feasibility for realizing the next generation of access network based on 40-Gbps signal transmission over passive optical network (PON) using various data modulation formats: NRZ-OOK, RZ-OOK, RZ-DPSK, and RZ-DQPSK. We show the success of 40-Gbps signal transmission over 20 km of PON with an inline dispersion compensation both in time-division multiple access (TDMA) and optical code division multiple access (OCDMA) schemes under the BER less than 10-3 without FEC.
