Abstract :
We developed nitride photoelectrodes to produce hydrogen from water. GaN can split water into hydrogen and oxygen as a photocatalyst with no extra bias applied. The irradiated photon-to-current conversion efficiency was as high as 60-70% in the wavelength region below its bandgap. We confirmed good stability and high efficiency of a GaN photoelectrode.
