Abstract
Generating the starting torque in the single-phase SRM (switched reluctance motor) is related to the inductance variation and the starting position of the rotor. The single-phase SRM has only one inductance variation and the positive torque is generated in the positive slope of inductance variation. Therefore, the starting device is required to place the rotor at the specific section before the start. This paper describes the magnetic force of the starting device. Equation of the magnetic force is derived to determine the minimum required force of the starting device. Also, the minimum required magnetic force is measured by making an experiment with the prototype
