Abstract :
The design of a fiber-optic star local area network (LAN) based on an optomechanical matrix switch using a linear stepping-motor is presented. This network is called a SUPER-PBX. The optomechanical matrix switch design, transmitter-receiver module, matrix switch line-card, and switch prototype are described. The advantages of this approach are discussed
