  • Abstract
    An X-band microwave/photonic phased-array radar demonstrator is described. The critical components associated with the microwave/photonic beamforming network have been experimentally studied. Measured parameters of a DFB (distributed feedback) laser and an EDFA (erbium-doped fiber amplifier) for analog modulation are in good agreement with theory. Using a simplified analytical system model with incorporation of an EDFA, it is shown that for a system bandwidth of 100 MHz and a modulation index of 46% the maximum attainable SNR is approximately 40 dB.<>
