Abstract :
Three types of activated carbons were used in O3-BAC process for the advanced treatment of the Miyun Reservoir water. The experimental results showed that both crushed carbon and cylindrical carbon met the requirement of O3-BAC process, and the quality of the effluent from activated carbon columns was improved. On the condition of adequate dissolved oxygen (DO), the structure of carbon was not concerned with the removal effect of NO2 macr-N and NO3 macr -N which were influenced by DO content of the influent of carbon filters. In the case of enough DO, nitrite of the effluent was not detected. The treatment effects of different carbons depended on the biological characteristics of the activated carbons. Exception of biomass, there were some differences in situ oxygen uptake rate (SOUR) and DO among the three carbons. The order of SOUR and DO among the carbons was PJ>ZJ>PK, which was consistent with the removal efficiency of organic indexes, namely PJ carbon with irregular surface structure and larger specific area had better biodegradability for BDOC and NH4 +-N.
