Abstract
This paper proposes base-three ratio for the selection of asymmetrical multilevel inverter voltage source. The advantage is maximizing the number of levels for a particular power circuit configuration. Cascaded H-bridges topology has been adopted. The (n) H-cell per arm symmetrical inverter forms a (2n-1)-levels. However with the proposed asymmetrical input voltages, the number of levels increases to 3k. A lookup table-based controller has been designed and shown to provide high quality output voltage for a wide range of output magnitude ratio. Simulation results show the quality improvement and reveal some implementation benefits of this inverter
