Abstract :
A seismic event trigger is one of the key features of field seismometers. The classical Short Time Average and Long Time Average ratio (STA/LTA) trigger has been widely used but there are still some limitations. More advanced techniques for seismic event triggers have been proposed; however, they mostly require a rather high level of computational resources. This paper discusses an implementation of a seismic event trigger using a fuzzy inference system (FIS) for field seismometers. The trigger takes into account both the STA/LTA ratio and frequency spectral components of the input signal. The trigger is designed to consume less computational resources and suited for embedded-based platforms.
