Abstract :
In a highly competitive environment, there are always real business risks for carriers, equipment suppliers, service providers and users. Customers expect and demand high quality and economic service under almost any condition, including network overloads, outages or disasters. Therefore, significant or sustained service degradation can result in lost business and reputation. With that in mind, it is important to understand that traffic management for emerging technologies, architectures and services, including common channel signaling, AIN, wireless, ISDN packet, fast packet, ATM and video, will be especially difficult. The popular support for some common teletraffic “myths”, combined with very high growth and complex demand patterns, contribute to the problem. This paper will overview some key issues, myths and facts regarding traffic management challenges
