Abstract :
A proposal is made for an efficient time-division single-frequency data cellular system that offers improved channel throughput, leading to an increase in spectrum utilization over that of the conventional scheme. The time is divided into packet slots and adjacent cells operate on different time slots. This eliminates the high level of interference among adjacent cells at the expense of reducing the time available to each cell. The system has been simulated and studied analytically for different time-division slotted ALOHA schemes, to ensure that active mobiles located in adjacent cells transmit in different time slots. It was found that the throughput of the data channel increases linearly with the number of cells in the system. Improvement of the data channel stability was determined by an upper-bound curve for delay versus throughput with different numbers of time-division single-frequency, slotted ALOHA schemes as parameters. The proposed system throughput was several times greater than that of an equivalent single cell system. One application of this proposed system is as an overlay over the existing cellular systems through an extended protocol
