Abstract
Through extensive direct modelling we quantify patterning effects in a WDM RZ-DBPSK fibre link at 40 Gbit/s channel rate. We demonstrate BER improvement through skewed channel pre-encoding reducing the occurrence of the most dangerous triplets.
