Abstract
Impulse characteristics of horizontal grounding devices is closely related to its Geometry size and amplitude of the impulse current. In order to make out this relation, an analytical method by ATP-EMTP to research the impulse characteristics of horizontal grounding electrode under different impulse current magnitude and geometrical dimension of grounding devices, when soil resistivity is low, is proposed in this paper. Test results have shown that impulse grounding resistance decrease with the increase of impulse current magnitude and geometrical dimension, the extent of the decline slowly diminishes and tends to be saturated.
