Abstract :
Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) evaluates the amount of radio-frequency energy, absorbed by a body, related to the unit of mass and to the unit of time; other words, absorbed power per mass unit. Undoubtedly, it is one of the main parameters used in non-ionizing radiation dosimetry. The paper presents a comparative analysis of the computed SAR (figures and tables), using CST software, for the human head SAM phantom. We have focused our efforts on measuring the resulting SAR from the five types of handheld transceivers, TETRA, GSM 900, GSM 1800, DECT and WCDMA (with the frequency of their carrier and the maximum level of field strength imposed by the ETSI standards). We have also calculated the significant values for the skin depths (mm) associated to the head type tissues, for these five carrier frequencies. With practical significance is the maximum value of the rms, averaged on 1g and respective 10 g of tissue. Even if the obtained values are below the limits accepted by ICNIRP, it is strongly advisable to reduce the time of intrinsic call, to use cell-phones of newer generations and not to keep the receiver tightly “glued up” by the ear.
