Abstract
Blood pressure measurement (BPM) is the most convenient, standard method of investigation for the cardiovascular activity. This study is concerned with its usage for the evaluation of the flow in the brachial-ulnar-radial tree together with waveform-based techniques such as the applanation tonometry, from the perspective of the capacitive pressure sensors (CPSs). First, we consider a concept CPS usable for BPM. Next, we built a realistic computational domain that represents the right arm of an adult using medical images and reconstruction techniques. A mathematical model for the blood flow-arm-CPS interactions and its finite element implementation, are presented and used to study these phenomena. Finally, we present numerical simulation results that may conveniently be used to analyze the cardiovascular activity monitored through CPS - BMP methods.
