Abstract
The turbulent atmospheric channel causes fluctuations in both intensity and phase of the transmitted optical signal, which degrades the performance of free space optical links. In this paper, we demonstrate the use of wavelets to correct the signal distortion due to turbulence. The demonstration also includes a simple information recovery technique using a differentiator and a two threshold decision device. The results are quantified by calculating the average bit error rate ratio (ABERR), which shows that the BER is improved by several orders of magnitude under strong turbulence conditions.
