Abstract
With the deepening of the socialization of sports, sporting events, especially large-scale sporting events present a tendency of diversity, and are impacting increasingly widely on the city. The paper discusses the active roles large-scale sporting events play in promoting city competitiveness, mainly in the following aspects: to improve urban infrastructure standards, and optimize urban living environment, to stimulate urban economic development, and create urban characteristic industries, to provide high-quality public service, and show the integrated management level of cities, to attract public participation, and enhance the overall strength of urban sports, to shape the characteristic brand image of cities by hosting the sporting events, to improve social soft environment of cities, and enhance cities´ soft power.
