Abstract
Appliance detection within the total load can offer the user a better understanding of how the energy is used and can help him find solutions to reduce consumption and costs. The detection can be made based on the specific electrical signature each one has. This paper presents a new algorithm which characterize the appliances by making use of some parameters obtained from the spectral analysis of the electrical current. The obtained electrical signature is characterized by a large number of parameters which help distinguish similar appliances from each other.
