  • Abstract
The paper presents a comparative study between two operating modes for a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) at variable speed, in order to obtain a better efficiency. The aim is to find the best operating mode for a pumped storage system supplied by variable renewable energy sources (RES) energy based source. The study includes several PMSMs with rated speed of 1000 rpm, from power ranged between 5 and 75 kW at variable speed. Through simulations the paper shows that the yield can be improved at low speeds.
