Abstract
Last year the National Science Foundation sponsored a new program entitled “NSF Engineering Scholars Workshop: Preparing Engineering Faculty of the Future” which was hosted by Carnegie Mellon University, USA, July 21-26, 1996. The primary objective of the workshop was to provide new engineering educators with a variety of skills to succeed in both education and research. Focusing on an approach for the integration of research and education, this paper discusses one area in which the workshop influenced the author´s experiences as a new faculty member
