  • Abstract
This paper explores the problem of input delay for a robust stabilizing controller including synchronized measurements. The proposed controller replaces a standard power system stabilizer and is shown to maintain the stability of an interconnected power system under both normal and severe operating conditions. This performance is accomplished through the inclusion of measurements from several points in the power system and the application of advanced linear matrix inequality algorithms. The proposed controllers are designed to be robust and effective even when presented with delayed input signals. The proposed controllers were conceived for and tested on a 4-machine test power system with regard to their ability to damp the interarea oscillations present in the test systems and to allow an increase in tie-line power flow without a loss of stability.
