Abstract :
A modular model of UPFC, suitable for dynamic simulation programs, is presented. The model, whose characteristics have been compared with those of a model widely adopted in the literature, reproduces the regulating actions of the device and its impact on interconnecting systems. Based on matrix procedures, the model enables to determine system and device power requirements when actions for governing power flows, keeping the synchronism or damping oscillations, are to be performed. This model has been implemented and used in various computer codes for steady-state, medium/long term dynamics and small-signal stability studies. An application on a realistic case study network is reported.
